To all my friends and family:

I had been totally lost for over the last two
years. After my auto accident I didn't have the
desire to go now and lived my life day to day just
surviving, I lost all hope.

I finally had connection with George "my brother" Singleton
and he brought me so much memories that I finally
felt the need to get things rolling again.

I see my Navajo people depending more and more on
the government for the little money thats given each
month that won't even cover the utility bill and food
stamps that is not enough to get good food. No wonder,
we have so much people getting cancer thats usually
late stage thats finally discovered. Diabetes is all killing
            my people along with alcohol.

My son Sean Alvin Begaye told me that 70% is our
unemployment rate at this time on the Dine' (Navajo)
Reservation. Most of the young Navajo men that leave
the Dine' Reservation do have a hard time surviving in
the main stream society and turn to alcohol. They have
no bright future and those that have family became split up
where the mother works, and the father in the city.

Our gang activity has increased over the past few years.
Also the killings by these gang members have become more
brutal. I thought to myself on what I can do and George
had been into organic gardening along with Karen
and Antonio Ferreira from Oregon that my family wanted to
plant this year in Two Grey Hills, New Mexico and thats where
my mother's land is and we started working on it.

Since my Mother's (legendary Navajo/Dine' rug weaver Alice
Roanhorse) death, we had learned that fence poles
had been taken, our gate, and a road was made through
there, and we started on it. We had attracted some other
people who want to plant, but have no seed, tractor rental
is extremely high and field fences, etc.

So I thought, maybe I can write to everyone and maybe they
can spread the word about us needing help from people,
(labor of Love), we have at least 5 to 8 different areas that
            we can plant this year.

We have people, some of whom have alcohol problems, who we
are working with including Leanard Seeley, Edison Seeley, Glen
Yazzie, Joe Laughin, Imogene and Dennis Mitchell, Theresa
Upshaw, Marie Dedman, Rose Dedman, Chad Begaye.

            We are getting attention.

But we need these items ..........:

               0. seeds and fruit trees
               1. Pick up trucks at least two
               2. Tractor
               3. 10 shovels 17.00 each
               4. 2 axes 25.99 each
               5. hoes 10.00 each
               6. rakes 35.00 each
               7. wheel barrels 175.00
due to the fact we need solid wheel
because of the bullhead sticker we have around
               8. 20 pairs of gloves 10.00 each
               9. fence digger 61.00 each
             10. 10 rolls of barb wires 29.00 each
             11. 50 fence poles 03.00 each
             12. enclosed Trailers (small ones)

Although these people are willing to work, we have
to travel 100 miles to certain parts of the Dine'
(Navajo) Reservation and the cost of gas has been
high and lunch for the workers. I am asking for
donation of any types and we will have web pages to sell
some of our art work and lithographs.

      My e mail is jgbegaye@yahoo.com.
      Thank you.

      Sincerely,

      Julie Gorman Begaye
